Kevin Love Getting No Love

During Game 4 of the playoff basketball game between the Cleveland Caveliers and the Boston Celtics, Cavs forward Kevin Love dislocated his shoulder while fighting for a loose ball with Celtics forward Kelly Olynyk.  Love's arm was clearly seen being clamped down by Olynyk and during the scuffle it ended up being dislocated, causing Love to almost certainly miss the rest of the playoffs.  In Adam Himmelsbach's interview with Kelly Olynyk he says that Love "clamped me first and then I clamped him back and we were wrestling for the ball."  Then Olynyk says I tried to hold him from the ball so my teammate could grab the ball.  He didn't know anything wrong happened until he saw Kevin running off the court with his arm facing the wrong way.

I understand that rough play happens all the time in the game of basketball.  I know this first hand as I am a huge basketball fan and a player myself and I have even broken a bone while playing.  But I watched this play on T.V. and I think the play was fair until Olynyk decided to violently move his arm while he and Love were tangled up.  I wouldn't say Kelly was trying to necessarily dislocate Kevin Love's shoulder but I think he was definitely trying to twist his arm so he could prevent Love from grabbing the basketball ball.  The series has also been rather physical as almost all playoff games are, but this play seemed just a little bit too over the top.  At least Kelly Olynyk had the guts to apologize.

Ex Nebraska RB Lawrence Phillips' cellmate died by strangulation

On Thursday, April 9th former Nebraska running back great Lawrence Philips was suspected for murder when his cell mate was found dead from "Neck compression asphyxia," as stated by the Kern County Sheriffs Office.  Philips cell mate, Damion Soward was in jail for life after being convicted of first degree murder.  Lawrence has always been in trouble his whole life having assaulted his girlfriend in college and being sued for it, as well as pleading guilty to vandalism.  Although Philips still managed to be chosen 6th overall by the St. Louis Rams, he did not stay with them long because he was kicked off the team for refusing to oblige to team rules.  Then things really went downhill when Lawrence was imprisoned for 31 years for attempting to run over a couple men in his car.

I think Lawrence Philips should have gotten his life back on track a long time ago.  After all the trouble he had in his early life he still managed to get drafted in the NFL.  But still trouble found a way to get to him.  As a Nebraska football fan I really wish he could have managed to turn things around.   And now it seems that Lawrence could be convicted of murder.  I honestly think that Philips did kill his cell mate.   But I bet it was in self defense.  That makes the most sense, since Soward was obviously a violent man and was a member of a gang.  This is obviously an unfortunate situation and hopefully Philips does not get in even more trouble.   But either way this is a terrible event and I try and pray every day for those in prison.

South Carolina Officer is Charged with a under of Walter Scott

Link to Article: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/08/us/south-carolina-officer-is-charged-with-murder-in-black-mans-death.html?_r=0

On April 7th, 2015, white officer Michael Slager is charged with murder after a video shows him in shooting and killing an unarmed black man as he is running away.  He claims that he, "Feared for his life."  After the man had taken his stun gun during a mini fight at a traffic stop.  This does not appear to be the case as the video shows Mr. Scott running away with taser wires in his back and the officer firing his gun 8 times.  Officer Slager then calls into his radio saying, "Shots fired and the subject is down.  He took my taser."  Later in the video you see the police officer run and pick something up from the ground and then place it next to Scott's body.  We assume this is the taser but it can be tough to tell.

I think that people like Officer Slager are causing the entire police office to look bad.  Police officers from all over America are going to take a hit because of this and constantly be yelled at and not treated right just because one guy who makes up maybe 2-4% of dirty police officers.  Not only did yet again another white officer shoot an unarmed black man, but he also tried to plant evidence by placing the taser by Mr. Scott's body.  He even lied and said he performed CPR on this man, which was not the case at all.    If shootings and other events like this, such as the shooting in Ferguson keep on occurring, then the United States as a whole will begin to suffer and tension will only continue to rise between police officers and the citizens of this country, especially African Americans.

                                                                   Officer Slager.

New Jersey Senator Claims to be Innocent After Being Accused of Crime

On April 1st, Senator Robert Menendez was accused of federal corruption charges.  The Senator, along with Dr. Salomon Melgen, who is a Florida ophthalmologist were indicted earlier today when they were connected in a bribery scheme where Menendez apparently accepted contributions from Melgen in exchange for using the power of his Senate office to benefit Melgens personally and financially (Par.10).  Senator Menendez was indicted for one count of conspiracy, one count of violating the travel act, eight counts of bribery, and three counts of honest service fraud (Par.11).  Mendendez' attorneys have even urged him to turn himself in but he has not done so yet and is claiming to be not guilty thus far.  In fact Menendez said during a press conference, "I have always conducted myself in accordance with the law.  I have always stood up for what I believe is right... That's who I am and I am proud of what I have accomplished and I am not going anywhere"
(Menendez Par. 2).

I personally think that Senator Menendez is guilty.  First off, he is a New Jersey politician and I swear 75% of those guys are corrupt.  Also I think it is shady that he gets all these donations from some doctor in Florida.  This guy definitely is corrupt and has no business being a Senator.  You can tell by just looking into those guys eyes! Assistant Attorney General Caldwell said,  "Government corruption at any level of elected office corrodes the public trust and weakens our democratic system" (Caldwell Par. 16). So it looks like I am not the only one who agrees this guy is a fraud and is finally getting what he deserves.  Anyways peace out guys and Im curious as to if you guys think this politician is guilty or not.  Feel free to leave a comment.
:-)

Day In and Day Out

Hi, I'm Alex King.  I'm currently a Sophomore at Creighton Prep.  I play on the varsity tennis team, run track, and I play YMCA basketball.  We even won state this year for tennis which was a really cool experience.  I even served on Grounds Crew for the Freshman Retreat, I joined Operations Others in the fall and I plan on joining Campus Ministry this Spring.

In my free time I enjoy hanging out with friends, watching football, playing basketball and tennis, and even playing video games.  I also enjoy watching TV shows like the Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, and Sons of Anarchy.  I enjoy traveling and since my dad works for a Travel Agency it makes it easier.  I travel yearly to California to visit my mom's side of the family that lives there.  I have even been out of state a few times to go to Mexico and the Bahamas.

I have a relatively small family.  Its just my mom Jenny, my dad Mike, my sister Julia and my dog
Riley.  My dad works for a Travel and Transport as a business lawyer and contract attorney.  My works retail at Athleta and works for Conagra foods as a consumer affairs rep.  I also have a job working as a bagger for HyVee.  My only other relatives that live in Nebraska are my dad's parents.  The rest of my mom's family mostly live in California and my dad's in Massachusetts.
